Senior Portfolio Analyst - Staples, Inc., Framingham, MA

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position is an integral component of the Portfolio Management
team within the Merchandising department, reporting into the Director
of Portfolio Strategy. This portion of the Portfolio team has 3 main
objectives, which it delivers through strong cross-functional
partnership between the Staples Business Units (SBU), Marketing and
Merchandising. The group utilizes a highly analytical, strategic
approach to each of its functions. Primary interactions are with the
leadership level of Merchandising (EVP, GMMs), as well as Marketing,
SBUs and the COO staff

Growth & Innovation:

• Supporting the long-term and annual strategic initiative process •
The goal of this process is to develop a pipeline of growth
opportunities to drive US Retail (as well as cross-channel) comp sales
while maximizing profitability

Planning & Strategy:

• Provide a long-term perspective on the portfolio based on financial
performance, market trends, customer research and strategic
initiatives • The team also provides analytical support to the
Merchandising leadership team (especially the EVP of Merchandising and
GMMs) to drive decision-making around short- and long-term changes in
strategy and resource allocation (eg. circular space, inventory,
product transition resources, capital, expense, etc.) • In addition,
the team supports successful execution and integration of new/enhanced
assortment planning tools (eg. Contribution Margin, Space
Optimization) into the Merchant culture

Performance Management:

• Monitor ongoing portfolio performance relative to financial goals,
resource productivity and market trends • Develop plans for mitigating
risks and address opportunities within the portfolio • Drive SBU,
Marketing and Merchandising leadership to execute changes in strategy
based on recommendations

REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor's Degree required • 1-2 years related experience •
Demonstrated strong problem solving and analytical skills • An
inquisitive mind with intellectual curiosity aimed at solving business
problems • High motivation and enthusiasm for making a positive impact
to the company • Strong partnership skills and ability to impact
results • Experience in Merchandising, Inventory Management/Planning
or other Supply Chain areas preferred • Demonstrated strong
proficiency in Advanced Microsoft Excel, Access and Brio • Must be
able to take direction from multiple parties with competing interests
and synthesize for resolution • Excellent oral and written
communication skills
