COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
The Massachusetts Office of Travel & Tourism (MOTT) is the state
agency dedicated to promoting Massachusetts as premiere visitor
destination set in the midst of rich historical and cultural
tradition. MOTT's budget is derived from a portion of the state hotel
room occupancy tax and is therefore responsible for encouraging
overnight stays, as well as increasing tourism related spending and
payroll. MOTT serves as a leader in the tourism industry, bringing
together the public and private sectors to promote Massachusetts as a
leisure destination.

More than 31 million people visit Massachusetts each year who spend
approximately $11 billion, making tourism one of the largest
industries in the Commonwealth. The industry generated $750 million in
state tax revenues and supported 124.800 jobs in 2003.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position manages a comprehensive program of primary and secondary
research to inform marketing decisions, track results, and evaluate
the industry's economic impact.

Duties:
1. Define and implement a research program driven by MOTT's
information deficits and supports the development of a successful
marketing strategy;
2. Review, analyze, and summarize actionable marketing research
data and reports for MOTT managers;
3. Communicate relevant primary and secondary research findings
to MOTT staff, external advertising and public relations agencies,
regional tourism councils, and the Massachusetts travel industry, at
large;
4. Monitor key data and publish a monthly tracking report;
5. Direct and coordinate all research and data management vendor
contracts;
6. Coordinate all research vendor programs and oversee financial
transactions to ensure contract compliance;
7. Prepare and monitor statistical reports tracking the economic
impact of tourism and travel to Massachusetts;
8. Assist private and public tourism-related organizations in
understanding tourism impacts for strategic planning and investment
purposes;
9. Manage all aspects of Travel Industry Association's
Travelscope program, including data analysis, interpretation, and
reporting, as well as vendor oversight;
10. Manage all aspects of MOTT's web analytics, including analysis
and reporting of massvcation.com usage;
11. Provide input into strategic marketing decisions;
12. Manage allocation of regional tourism grant funds in
accordance with established formula guidelines;
13. Provide general advice about research techniques to the
regional tourist councils and the Massachusetts travel industry;
14. Support the information needs of MOTT's communications staff
and the media;
15. Network with peers to leverage learning and research
strategies used by other states/destinations;

REQUIREMENTS:
MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must have (A) at least four
years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, technical or professional
experience in research or statistical work, and (B) of which at least
one year must have been in a supervisory, administrative or managerial
capacity, or (C) any equivalent combination of the required experience
and the substitutions listed below. Driver's License Required.

This position is within the Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism
(MOTT) and is supervised by the Deputy Director for Domestic
Marketing.

Substitutions:
I. A Bachelor's degree may be substituted for a maximum of two
years of the required (A) experience.*
II. A Graduate degree from a recognized degree-granting college or
university may be substituted for a maximum of three years of the
required (A) experience.*

*Education towards such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the
proportion of the requirements actually completed.

NOTE: No substitutions will be permitted for the required (B) experience.

Market Research Consultant - Fidelity Investments, Wellesley, MA

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

• This position will be responsible for designing, executing and analyzing primary and secondary research results to enable effective decision making. Candidate will be expected to build a deep knowledge of the key areas within HR; Compensation, Benefits, Management Effectiveness, Staffing, HR Solutions, and its outsourcing partners.

Major Responsibilities

• Work with business partners to diagnose research needs and clarify research objectives to understand impact of HR processes on quality of service delivery.

• Design and execute quantitative and qualitative studies as needed, including preparing detailed project proposals, defining scope, objectives and business deliverables, designing the survey, analyzing and interpreting findings.

• Interpret findings through building covariate statistical models to understand which survey answers most influence satisfaction and translating those factors into recommendations for process change.

• Build a conceptual framework that uses the findings to make specific process recommendations for changes across HR.

• Coordinate dialogue / manage relationships with HR service providers to both interpret results and gain their support and input for recommendations.

• Manage vendor relations to ensure the projects are delivered with the highest quality, on-time and on-budget.

• Assess market trends through secondary research, external consultants and trade associations and communicate through reports or presentations to management.

• Communicate concepts, ideas, information and analysis in clear, thoughtful, and creative oral presentations and written materials.

• Responsible for identifying emerging industry trends and analyzing competitors' strategies to assist HR with business planning.

• Act as coordinator and consultant to all HR groups for survey design / construction and analysis of results.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Degree in business, marketing, economics, social sciences or the equivalent experience

• An MBA in Operations Management or MS/MPS in Statistics a plus

• Experience or education to design and quantitative surveys

• Background in social science and interest in Human Resources

• Solid knowledge of statistics, including covariate model building and use of logistical regression and correlation analysis.

Special Skills

• Experience with customer satisfaction research as well as research designed to identify and measure the key customer leverage points

• Experience with service development research, web site usability and effectiveness research, customer segmentation research.

• In-depth interviewing skills

• Excellent analytical, oral and written communication skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work across the organization
