COMPANY DESCRIPTION:
Musicians ranging from Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull to Ransom Wilson
perform on flutes made by our company. Powell, established in 1927,
is the leading maker of precious metal flutes in the world. Due to
sustained growth we are expanding our sales department and sales
management capabilities. We have excellent personal relationships with
our customers, both musicians and dealers. The new Director of Sales
will be expected to translate those relationships into improved sales
results.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Position Description: Responsibilities:
1. Establish budgets and goals for each fiscal year.
2. Meet budgeted sales at agreed pricing.
3. Develop programs to strengthen artist relations.
4. Travel domestically and internationally as needed to
accomplish sales goals.
5. Clearly communicate Powell's vision, mission, and values to
sales staff and customers.
6. Participate in Senior Management Team Meetings, representing Sales.
7. Market analysis to identify opportunities; implement
appropriate actions to maximize market share.
8. Principal responsibility for hiring, training, and reviewing
sales personnel; also assist in recruiting.
9. Monitor and meet or exceed customer service/satisfaction targets.
10. Create a proactive, positive, results oriented environment.
11. Weekly MIS will include statistics, such as calls made, visits
completed, orders received against budgeted orders, expected value of
order in the pipeline, service levels met, etc. Weekly MIS should
also report all dealers who are not meeting goals, and what the action
plan is, case by case, to achieve this.
12. All sales and promotional plans have clearly articulated goals
and criteria for measuring success. This applies to parties,
masterclasses, mailings, visits, conventions, etc.
13. Marketing responsibilities as qualified and as time allows.
Goals/Results: Desired Sales Department results include:
1. Meet 60% confidence level or better sales budget on time .
2. Expand dealer network by x% per year.
3. Introduce new products that meet or exceed goals.
4. Improve market share by x% per year.
5. Expand artists who play Powell by x% per year.
6. Reduce sales expenses as a percentage of sales by achieving
favorable volume variances and replacing some expensive visits and
travel with telephone and web-based sales tools.
7. Customer service tracked and consistently at "A" level
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Preference for sales experience in the music, entertainment,
consumer products/services, and/or selling to retail stores (both "mom
and pop" as well as national chains).
2. 5+ years of experience managing both inside and outside sales
people, and ideally reps as well.
3. International sales experience desirable.
4. High energy, results oriented personality.
5. Experience providing sales training.
6. Able to learn new CRM software quickly and optimize the system.
7. Excellent writing and presentation skills.
8. Demonstrable track record of success expanding the
distribution network and introducing new products.
9. Willingness to travel.
10. Multi-lingual capabilities a plus.
